That Night Follows Day in Vilnius
A look into our recent trip to Vilnius with That Night Follows Day
We are not long back from a wonderful ten days in Vilnius working with 17 local young people to perform a rehearsed reading of That Night Follows Day as part of the SIRENOS International Festival. The reading was directed by Matthew Evans and supported by Ursule Bartoseviciute our brilliant assistant and translator.
The young people were recruited during two days of workshops where we met over 90 young people who came to play games and read the text.
Kristina Savickienė, the festival’s artistic director feedback that ‘the experience was very enriching to all of us, I believe, and the children were mesmerized’.
The piece was performed to full houses at the Dance Theatre in Vilnius and included a question and answer session on the first night with two of the cast member plus Matthew and Imogen Ashby our participation producer. This was Imogen’s and Matthew’s first time working with a translated text (in this case Lithuanian) and there was learning for us.
Thank you to the staff and creative team at the festival for looking after us and the young people so well.
